Attestations / Authenication



(a) Attestation of an Affidavit for Issue of Child's Passport: This is required when one of the parents of the child is staying abroad and application for issue of Indian passport to the child in India (afresh or after deletion of the child's name in the passport of the parent resident in India) is being made by the other parent resident in India. The affidavit in the prescribed proforma is required to be submitted in duplicate along with the passport of the parent staying abroad. Fee for this service is A$25:00 per signature seal.

(b) Attestation of Documents or Power of Attorney (not related to property matters): To be submitted in duplicate duly notarised (original documents plus one photocopy). Original passport (plus photocopy of first five and last two pages of the passport) and one recent passport size photograph of each applicant signing the power of attorney is required. Fee is A$25:00 per signature seal.

(c) Attestation of Documents or Power of Attorney (related to property matters): To be submitted in duplicate duly notarised (original documents plus one photocopy). Passport in original (plus photocopy of first five and last two pages of the passports) and one recent passport size photograph of each applicant signing the power of attorney is required. Applicants Fee is A$40:00 per signature seal.

(d) Attestation of Documents or Power of Attorney (related to commercial matters e.g trade/export/import document): To be submitted in duplicate after certification by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Sydney, a letter from the applicant seeking service. Original documents plus one photocopy. Original passport plus one photocopy along with one recent passport size photograph of exutant/deponent/each applicant signing the power of attorney is required. Fee is A$100:00 per signature seal.

Note for (b) & (c)

  • The Power of Attorney and Affidavits etc. are required to be signed at the Consulate in the presence of a Consular Officer / Counter Clerk. Care should be taken to avoid cutting/overwriting.
  • Document submitted by foreign nationals/executed abroad (except Person of Indian Origin/ OCI card holders- proof to be produced ) are required to be attested by a local notary public and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Sydney before being presented at the Consulate for attestation.
  • Normally service is rendered on the next working day, or on the date specified in the receipt, from the date of receipt of document/fee.

JURISDICTION

The States of New South Wales and South Australia fall within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India, Sydney. All other Visa Applicants should lodge their applications at the High Commission of India Canberra, Consulate General of India Melbourne, or at Honorary Consulates in Perth & Brisbane


TIMINGS:


Applications for all passports/consular services (Like miscellaneous services on passports, legalisation/attestation of documents etc.) are accepted at the counter between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on all working days. No application is received after 12:30 p.m. except in case of emergencies, such as death or illness in the family. Passports and other documents may be collected, on the date specified in the receipt, only between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
